Gynecomastia surgery is performed when a male has excessive breast tissue. There are many causes of gynecomastia, or excessive fat or breast tissue, in men. Some of the most common causes are:
• Obesity
• Aging
• Puberty
• Genetic Disorders
• Chronic Liver Disease
• Castration
• Steroid Abuse
• Tumors
There are other options to consider before electing Gynecomastia surgery. If you have excess breast tissue as a result of obesity, losing weight is the first option. If there is excess fat or breast tissue as a result of a medication that has been prescribed, there is always the option to consider other forms of treatment. However, at times, gynecomastia is the only option.
If you find that you have exhausted all options and male breast surgery is the only way to go, an evaluation would follow. This surgery is only performed on healthy and emotionally stable males. Men that have the best results from the surgery commonly have firm, elastic skin.
As with any other surgery, there are certain risks associated with the procedure. Common risks are:
• Skin Injury
• Adverse reaction to anesthesia
• Excessive bleeding
• Excessive Fluid Loss
In most cases, patients experience significant scaring and numbness of the breasts. At times, patients may experience an issue with asymmetry. If a patient experiences these type issues, a second procedure would be performed to correct any issue.
Once you have considered all other options, determined eligibility and accessed all risks, male breast surgery will be the next step. Before the procedure is performed, patients will receive a mammogram to rule out any chances of cancer and also provide the surgeon with a “map” of the area. After the procedure is complete, occasionally patients will receive liposuction to remove any excess tissue.
The recovery period is similar to that of other surgical procedures. Patients will experience soreness, bruises and discomfort. In most cases, patients are mobile within a week.
While the process of gynecomastia surgery may appear to be quite taxing, the benefits far surpass the troubles. Men that are able to eliminate extra fat in their breast area often experience a surge of self confidence. It is always a positive to increase self image and self esteem. Male breast surgery could be the boost you need to succeed.

@Melissa, true and it is getting increasingly popular amongst the men who suffer with enlarged male breasts. As the relative cost comes down and cosmetic surgery for men becomes more acceptable so the number of male breast reduction operations rises.

Gynecomastia may be caused by a hormone-secreting tumor of the breast, lung, or other organ. Biopsy may be performed to rule out the presence of cancer. Nice site.

Gynaecomastia is very helpful because it removes the tissue in excess.
Like the liposuction I would recommend to try a diet before (if overweight) in order to see what is the real situation.
