Gynecomastia Surgery And Children
Gynecomastia Surgery And Children
Gynecomastia is basically the abnormal development of large mammary
glands in males. This usually leads to severe breast enlargement. It often affects those that are stricken with cancer of the testacies or other like areas.
The condition can also occur in adolescence and in the elderly, due to physiological conditions.
In the case of adolescence, the condition is usually a source of distress or severe physiological trauma; however, it usually shrinks within a few short years, if not treated.
This condition is often related to obesity, though it is not exclusively attributed to this. It also depends on the intensity of sex hormones and the response of the breast tissue during periods of heightened hormonal states, such as puberty.
Though the condition will usually go away in adolescents, there are also a large number of people that suffer from it that will have it for their entire lives if it is not treated. Because it is usually caused by hormones during puberty and adolescence, those children should not have to worry about it for very long, but it still can be debilitating to those children during such a vulnerable time of life. Therefore, it is a very common practice for children’s parents to have them go through male breast reduction surgery.
This surgery is similar to the surgery that women go through when they are trying to have their breasts reduced. Basically, what the surgery consists of is the removal of excess fatty tissue in the breasts to reduce them in size.
However, if the fatty tissue is removed and the actual condition is left untreated, there is a possibility of the condition coming back with the building up of additional fatty tissue in the breasts, usually causing the need for additional surgery. In order to counter this, after and before a gynecomastia surgery, it is a good idea for the patient to consume calculated amounts of estrogen to counter the hormones that cause the fatty build up.
Though, there are some risks that follow a surgery such as this, including
scaring, bruising, swelling, bleeding, infection, and skin discoloration, many of these things can be easily treated. Especially with the hormones being taken after the surgery, these conditions may be avoided or greatly reduced.
Though this condition is very debilitating, gynecomastia surgery is a safe way to make sure you or your child is able to live a normal life.
